Classic – Limited Edition – Music posters
Limited edition music posters lovingly reformatted and recreated by David Storey, the artist responsible for the original iconic 1980s designs. Available now as museum quality inkjet prints (printed on 300gsm Fine Art Baryte paper using light-fast archival ink) each one is signed and numbered and includes a certificate of authenticity. The Two Tone posters have been made available again as a result of a collaboration between the artists responsible for the original 2 Tone graphic design work – John 'Teflon' Sims and David Storey (working under the creative direction of Jerry Dammers).

How the Posters Came About
"Typically whenever I was asked to design a record cover in the past I would be asked to design a 'fly' poster too, to promote the record. These were large - 60 x 40 inch - and often a more interesting design challenge than the record cover itself. After 30 years very few of the originals still exist, so in the recreation of these posters I've been working to some extent from memory - though using wherever possible the original artwork elements... and I've really enjoyed re-doing them"
David Storey February 2012
These classic posters were designed originally by David in the 1980s. His work in the music industry is generally agreed to represent some of the most important and influential graphic imagery of that decade, which is itself recognised as having seen a highpoint of graphic design in the Twentieth Century.
The language of these posters is closely associated with the popular youth culture in the UK during the 1980s, a time when music was still handmade and when the 12 inch record sleeve format was king.

David Storey's work in the music industry
In 1979, fresh from art college, David Storey joined the team that, under the creative direction of Jerry Dammers, created the graphic identity for cult ska band The Specials and their label 2 Tone. The '2 Tone Man' (Walt Jabsco), the checkerboard pattern, the identity's bold simple typography and 'anti design' aesthetic make it an icon of its time and influenced a generation of advertising artists and designers.
Understandably David's work for 2 Tone led to other music industry commissions including designs for: The Housemartins, The Lightning Seeds, Blondie, Pere Ubu, The Gun Club, Billy Idol, Generation X, Iggy Pop, The Las, Rico Rodriguez, Robert Wyatt, Stiff Little Fingers and Norman Cook.
