These iconic posters were designed by David Storey in the late 1980s for the British band The Housemartins. David’s work in the music industry is generally agreed to represent some of the most important and influential graphic imagery of that decade, which is itself recognised as having seen a highpoint of graphic design in the Twentieth Century.

The language of these images is closely associated with the popular youth culture in the UK at that moment, when bands like The Housemartins were producing their most successful work, and when the 12 inch record sleeve format was still king.

Each poster is available again in a limited edition of 100 giclée prints. Printed on Fine Art paper (Baryte Museum 300gsm) using light-fast archival ink, each one is numbered and signed by David Storey and includes a certificate of authenticity.

76 x 56 cms, (image size: 66 x 48 cms ).

£88.00 each or £450 for all six.

David Storey’s work in the music industry
In 1979, fresh from art college, David Storey joined the team that, under the creative direction of Jerry Dammers, created the graphic identity for cult ska band The Specials and their label Two Tone. The 'Two Tone Man’ (Walt Jabsco), the checkerboard pattern, the identity's bold simple typography and 'anti design' aesthetic make it an icon of its time and influenced a generation of advertising artists and designers. The Two Tone packaging was voted 15th in Q Magazine’s ‘100 greatest sleeve designs of all time’.

Understandably David’s work for Two Tone led directly to other music industry commissions, in particular designs for The Housemartins. Other commissions included: The Fun Boy Three, The Lightning Seeds, Iggy Pop, Phil Collins, The Las, Robert Wyatt, and Norman Cook.

In 1984 David became a founder member of the highly successful and innovative The Bureaux - a collective of 20 artists and designers working from a warehouse in London’s Clerkenwell district. In 1987 The Bureaux was chosen by the Design Council to represent Britain in 'A Festival of Design' in Vienna.
